Legislative Aide

The office of State Senator Nathan Johnson is seeking a bright and motivated individual to work as a Legislative Aide until the 2020 winter holiday break. Staff is currently working remotely, which may or may not change before the end of the internship. The ideal candidate will have an interest in a variety of public policy issues including education, transportation, public health, and criminal justice. The position will involve a mixture of policy and office duties, and the Legislative Aide will be expected to take on a wide range of responsibilities. Qualifications: • Availability to work at least 15 hours/week from the start of the internship until the winter holiday break. • Internet access, use of web conferencing platforms, and the ability to work remotely • Excellent research, writing, and oral communication skills • High level of organization • Ability to work effectively with stakeholders representing a variety of groups from across the state • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and internet-based research platforms Responsibilities: • Perform research projects in support of possible future legislation • Review and analyze statutes and legislation • Conduct policy research • Participate in and prepare notes for webinars and internet presentations regarding a variety of public policy topics • Assist with stakeholder meetings and constituent casework • Perform various administrative tasks and other duties as assigned
