Job Description: 
State Representative Jared Patterson's Capitol Office is seeking Legislative Interns for the summer of 2022, with the opportunity for extending. The ideal candidate is enrolled in an undergraduate program/recently graduated, available to work between roughly 16-24 hours weekly, interested in a career in government/public service, and eager to partake in meaningful work for the constituents of House District 106 and Texans all across the state. Though the office cannot offer regular pay, the position will assist in gaining work experience, industry networking, and gaining new skills valuable in a variety of workforce settings. Legislative Interns will learn about state government and the Texas legislature by serving constituents in the Capitol Office through three primary responsibilities. The first is administrative duties, including greeting visitors, organizing mail, answering incoming phone calls, filing documents, and creating weekly reports on a variety of issues. The second is correspondence, which includes data entry, letter preparation, and office communication to the constituents. The third area of responsibility is research, which consists of project-style tasks to gain legislative information that pertains to the policy objectives of the office. Other opportunities for special projects could arise throughout the length of the program.
