OVERVIEW: The Office of State Representative Carl O. Sherman is currently seeking two motivated and responsible interns to join our digital team. Interns will have the opportunity to play a significant role in crafting and creating digital content for social media to amplify the work Rep. Sherman and our office is doing on behalf of the constituents of House District 109. An ideal candidate will have social media/communications experience, excellent attention to detail, and work independently to meet deadlines. The minimum 15 intern hours per week must be scheduled during regular office hours, Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. JOB TITLE: Social Media / Digital Communications Intern DEPARTMENT: Communications LOCATION: Texas Capitol (Austin, TX) and District Office (Lancaster, TX) SALARY / COMPENSATION: Unpaid WORKING HOURS: Monday through Friday / from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. JOB DESCRIPTION: The Social Media / Digital Communications Intern will report to Rep. Carl O. Sherman and Chief-of-Staff. REQUIREMENTS: This is NOT an entry-level position. Excellent understanding of online organizing communications Skills and experience producing excellent written and visual content, including graphics and video, for a variety of social media platforms. Critical and strategic thinking Strong technical writing skills Ability to translate complex policy issues into simple language Excellent communication and interpersonal skills RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Develop, implement and manage social media calendar Develop social media strategy and manage social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn) Work collaboratively with the team to develop monthly e-newsletters using the email marketing system Work collaboratively with the team to design print collateral, including brochures, publications, and event materials Generate engaging content weekly (e.g., original text, graphics, and videos) Oversee social media accounts’ design (e.g., timeline cover, profile pictures, and layout) Suggest and implement new features to develop Name I.D. Manage and oversee social media content Work with Chief-of-Staff to ensure content is informative and appealing Provide constructive feedback PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: A qualified candidate will possess strong social media and graphic design skills. Past experiences with Canva, Photoshop, and other digital/graphic/video design platforms are a plus.
